Jay Harpp
PT, DPT

Athletics have been at the heart of Jay’s life since he was growing up in Highlands Heights, Ohio. After running and playing soccer competitively throughout high school, Jay was ready for a change of pace. At the University of Vermont he discovered his love for the outdoors through activities such as snowboarding, telemark skiing, rock and ice climbing, and backpacking. Jay considers balance to be an integral part of life, and when he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, he was dedicated to his academics. With an interest in human physiology, Jay majored in Biology and took a pre-medicine course load.

As graduation neared, Jay felt the urge to compete again and decided to enter a bike race with the UVM cycling team. Cycling was like nothing he had ever experienced and he was hooked. For the next two years he raced for an elite amateur team based in Vermont and Massachusetts. Injuries sustained on the bike introduced Jay to the profession of physical therapy. He was amazed how these healthcare professionals were able to use their knowledge of the human body to foster a speedy recovery and return to sport. He had discovered his future career.

During his days as a competitive cyclist, Jay spent the winter season living with his sister and training in Longmont, Colorado. With 300 days of sunshine, the decision to relocate from Vermont to Colorado permanently was not a difficult one. In August 2007, Jay began studying for his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Regis University in northwest Denver. Jay graduated in May 2010 after a rigorous clinical education including a trip to Ethiopia to treat patients in an outpatient hospital setting. Jay loves every type of physical therapy, but has a special passion for outpatient orthopedics.

Jay is excited to be a part of the amazing team of professionals at Rocky Mountain Spine and Sport. His treatment philosophy is based on improving the function of the individual, either for work, play, or simply to return to a better quality of life. He combines his manual treatment techniques with specific therapeutic exercises, and always works to empower his patients to help themselves.
