A brand new, state of the art Rocky Mountain Spine and Sport facility has opened its doors, offering all the hands-on physical therapy that you expect, integrated with Rehabilitation Pilates for all types of orthopedic and spine injuries.

What is Pilates? Pilates is a method of physical and mental conditioning that uses specialized equipment to condition the entire body. Pilates trains for enhanced strength, flexibility, balance, posture and coordination, and is suitable for a wide range of people regardless of age or condition.

Why offer Rehabilitation Pilates? Pilates as an adjunct to manual (hands-on) physical therapy helps to bridge the gap between passive mobilization and active function, integrating aspects of core stabilization with both total body strengthening and stretching . Pilates has a strong basis in postural education and sport-specific function, looking at how to take painful or poor postures and movements that result from injury or repetitive strain and re-educate them to optimize tissue health and function. Because Pilates looks at the body as a whole in terms of movement, it helps to not only treat dysfunctional movement caused by injury, but dysfunctional movement existing in non-injured areas of the body. Thus, it is a total body, total health approach to healing!

What type of patient would benefit from rehabilitation Pilates? Post-operative and non-surgical orthopedic patients and patients suffering from both acute and chronic disorders such as whiplash and low back and neck pain benefit from Pilates.

How do you use Pilates in everyday life? Pilates is applicable to all function, teaching patients to be physically “ready” to perform simple day-to-day tasks (including good posture) and how to safely perform sport-specific tasks such as a ball throw, golf swing or back handspring. Pilates can also be used at home to self-treat/manage joint and tissue problems, empowering the patient to become independent from the clinic.

How do I make an appointment? Appointments can be made simply by calling 303-867-3280! Like all Rocky Mountain Spine and Sport clinics, we accept most insurances. Because rehabilitation Pilates is physical therapy, you will receive a full evaluation by a physical therapist who will come up with the most appropriate plan for treatment of your problem. Most treatments consist of a combination of manual therapy, patient education, modalities and rehabilitation Pilates.
